There’s this fog that sits and lifts in the mornings here.

It dances around valleys in the earliest parts of the day, sending everything into this glorious sheen.

It hovers and has its moment and then it vapors, and spreads, and flies high into the hours as the sun shines fresh light on the new day.

It’s Bob Ross like. Looking out the window here in the early hours is like looking out onto canvas.

Sitting here this morning seeing the fogged landscape out back, and Colossians 1 opened up to my right – I feel compelled to tell you that mornings spent in some type of Christ study will end up clearing some of the fog away.

Because being a person of faith in a struggling world can leave our hearts and minds murky.

Clarity can be hard to come by.

Certainty can wane.

The assuredness that once enraptured our freshly believing hearts, can be fogged over in certain seasons.

I know this.

So as the sun begins its ascent on our first fine Monday of the month, let’s go ahead and clear the webs by wandering right into the Scripts.

I mentioned to you last week that every Monday in July, God and agenda willing, I will post some words about a chapter in Colossians. I also said that I would be posting on Thursdays too, about a plethora of things. I feel happy about this plan and glad that you have joined me. Lord may it bear fruit and fall fresh and bring us closer to You.

If you feel so led, you can read Colossians 1 here.

I can’t get over how wonderfully this first chapter captures my prayer as a pastor’s wife.

Because I am a praying pastor’s wife. How else would I make it?

Leaders should be prayers.

A bended knee does more than a lifted pedestal, and an extended hand helps more than a wagging finger, and an arm-in-arm gives us all more strength than a staggered and scattered formation ever could.

So when I read Colossians 1, I say it as a petition and not just a Bible passage.

Set your phone or device down for a sec. Feel free to tap it as necessary to keep the light alive on your screen. Turn your palms upward. And let me pray this over every festering soul that’s found their way here today, including myself.

Lord, let us be known by our faith and our love. Not by our scathing venom, or dogged traditions, or political leanings, or staunch religion. But by love. (Colossians 1:4)

Have us remember the hope that we already have in You. (Colossians 1:5)

Let the gospel story bear feast-worthy fruit in us. (Colossians 1:5-6)

Fill us with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. (Colossians 1:9)

Let any good work that comes forth from our faith give You the glory alone. (Colossians 1:10)

Make us mighty. (Colossians 1:11)

Turn us into patient people, who endure well, live joyfully, and give thanks. (Colossians 1:11-12)

Lord, help us to remember that we have indeed been rescued. And enable us to live as if we really are redeemed. (Colossians 1:13)

Amen, amen, amen.

I read in a commentary this morning that …

“Perhaps those who pray the most end up having the most reasons to thank God.”

Indeed. Over the last decade, my husband and I have had the sweet privilege of praying for things in the confines of our hearts and home – for the spiritual renewal of faith families, for healing, for revelation, for encounters, for provision, for the faith’s of fellow congregants to be swept up in the things of God. And I can attest to you that we do have so many reasons to thank Him now.

Take heart in that.

The fog has lifted here. Outside and inside.

There are no low-lying clouds murking up the mountains now.

And my head feels free.

Know that I’ll be praying the above words over you throughout today. Walk with expectation, and eyes wide open, and palms upward and empty.

I’ll see you around these parts on Thursday, friends.
