I almost always wake up thinking about England on Sundays.

Sometimes it’s an urge to pray for the region, sometimes it’s a longing to jet over the pond for the day, sometimes it’s just a constant reel of UK landscapes flipping through my thoughts – but yes, my heart turns east most Sabbaths.

My husband wakes up extraordinarily earlier on those days to singe up the loose ends of the day’s sermon. I too then, seem to wake up earlier as he hustles around the house getting ready. When I glance at the glow of the clock on those early mornings, it strikes me that my beloved Britain is usually right at their church hour in those moments.

So I pray over the nation…. for revival, for new power to be preached from old pulpits, for souls to be drawn to pews, and for His love and realness to captivate the nation again.

Yesterday wasn’t much different. I slid through my Twitter feed shortly after waking, where a photo of an old English church situated in the country side grabbed my attention. There is something so deep and lasting about that nation when it comes to faith, literature, the Jesus narrative. And the nation has such roots! The blood lines that trace back to Britain are vast. It all enthralls me.

So yesterday as I arrived at a birthday party my daughter was invited to, the special hum of voices around me caught my attention. There was an accent from most of the party goer’s parents. After a few moments, I realized that I was at a party with expats from the United Kingdom.

You can imagine my sheer delight. It was a sweet way to spend the afternoon – for a woman just always wondering how she will find her way back to Britain again.

And now, Monday. It has arrived in all its blunt glory, albeit with a little less force due to MLK day.

As we holiday, or as we go about work and school as usual, let’s allow our thoughts to meander back to this man who showed us all how to have graceful grit and courage in the face of a fallen world.

Whatever your days hold the rest of the week, I pray that they contain some kind of new revelation from the Lord that loves us all.
