I slipped out of bed sleepy this morning while the dark lingered, while the children lay, before the day really dawned.

I attempted to wash the tired from my face, wrapped my robe tight around my waste, and started making banana bread.

It was a little too early and I was a little too spent to dish out something so domestic as homemade bread at that hour, but when the bananas are ripe…

When they make the switch, turning all freckled and tinted and soft – you can either throw them away to avoid the gnats, or you can try to make something that fills out of them.

There’s a book about Elizabeth the Second on my ottoman. The girl and I spotted it at the library – and with my all out love for England, and her all out love for gems, royalty, and fancy things – we bagged it.

The Queen turns 90 today, actually.

As I learn about her life, her reign, her speeches, her work – I’m increasingly impressed.

In a speech marking her Silver Jubilee, she said…

“When I was 21, I pledged my life to the service of our people and I asked for God’s help to make good that vow. Although that vow was made in my salad days when I was green in judgement, I do not regret or retract one word of it.”

Happy Birthday, Your Majesty. I wonder what you would say about this wild, strong pull I have to your nation?

In my loftiest of dreams I imagine that it’s possible for me to find out. Never say never.

The blonds have emerged from their bunks with dreamy faces this morning. The smell of baked bananas and dark chocolate chips have filled the house and made their way to the sweet little noses of my children. They are arguing as of right now, and if they do not stop, that wonderful treat won’t reach their mouths at all. The nose will have to do. And Mama means it.

I better scurry off and dress myself. A snuggly baby boo will be here soon, there’s light out my windows now, and Thursday is off and running.
