I still feel yesterday hanging around behind my eyes.
I got a good nights rest, no one needed anything, the hour was early when my head found the pillow, sleep was solid.
But when the alarm sang this morning I didn’t feel like I had gathered up all my rest yet.
You’ll have that I suppose.
Being a Mama is a constant gig and while terrific, tiresome.
As my eyes lifted and unlocked, one of the first things I thought about was a Shel Silverstein poem.
The day was still dark, barely cracking. Getting up and starting the morning made me feel like I was prying open something that didn’t want to be opened yet. It was an early and slow rising.
So naturally, the following words filled my cobwebbed head…
Oh, if you’re a bird, be an early bird
And catch the worm for your breakfast plate.
If you’re a bird, be an early early bird-
But if you’re a worm, sleep late.
And even in my drowsy state, I chuckled on the inside.
I think the rhyme coaxed me to swing my legs around to the side of the bed and start my dive into Thursday.
Sometimes all that’s needed is a little winking laughter.
I have all manner of things to accomplish in about an hours time. I will not get to all of them. I’m increasingly becoming okay with not being able to do everything before my bulls charge from bunkbeds.
I have an event tonight that I need to study and pray and prep for. There are areas of my home that need tending before a guest arrives for the weekend. There are meals and menus to plan before tomorrow’s grocery trip. School. Laundry. Emails.
I should push post on this thing and begin my duties for the day.
I hope your Thursday surprises you with little pockets of smiles here and there. Maybe even an outright guffaw to get you going.
We could all use a little more wit and chuckle, don’t you think? I’ll be praying today that everyone who reads these words, will encounter something that makes them howl and snort a little.
Hugs all around, friends.
