I like to listen while I’m doing laundry.
I’ve been tuning into truth while folding and hanging for years and years now. It turns chores into a time of teaching and I rather like that. I still have days where I just choose to get lost in my own wonderings while I pile and sort, because it gives God a chance to plop things into my mind and heart Himself. But I also enjoy taking in a good lesson while I just do life.
So, in tonight’s 3 Things post I’ve got podcasts.
Depending on what season and arena you currently find yourself in, a few of them might not pertain to you as much. But I encourage you to take a listen to the ones that strike a fancy in your heart while reading about them.
May you grow in knowledge and acceptance and peace as you take them in, friends.
3 Things: Podcasts
1.) The Brilliant Perspectives Podcast with Graham Cooke
He’s British. That’s reason enough to lean in for a listen. But truly, Cooke’s teachings have lengthened the roots of my faith the last several months. They’ve anchored me in. As one who has a history of wafting, Cooke’s thoughts are a good and needed tie. His teachings stand rock solid on the truth of the scriptures, and at the same time they branch in the belief that God can speak to us in so many forms and fashions – not just in the written word but always in agreement with it. God is so big and He’s made us so much like Himself that He can speak to us in all sorts of ways. This podcast, and the things shared there, prove this beautifully. I’m currently snatching and gleaning from some of these teachings to help me with a class I’m teaching soon (giving Cooke credit, of course), but I’m also just sitting under these podcasts to receive and reflect for my own faith’s sake. I’m growing because of it.
2.) Simple with Tsh Oxenreider
I first started tapping into the lovely aids and resources on Simple Mom, way back when I had itty bitty feet pattering around my Ohio home. Podcasts didn’t exist then but blogs did, and as my children napped each day I tuned in to what Tsh was offering on her website. I always walked away feeling understood, having a sense of community, and full – with ideas to help my mothering along a little. She’s got a sweet podcast now that I gobble up as soon as they become available. A current favorite of mine is the show entitled Tech + Family + Creativity. (Show 209). Other topics include work life, parenting, home, travel, faith, and books. Tsh and her podcast co-hosts are always relatable, kind, and easy to take in. She has a cool, funky vibe and she is comfortable with who she is and what she offers. It teaches me.
3.) Read-Aloud Revival with Sarah Mackenzie
Before I discovered the podcast, I read Sarah’s book Teaching from Rest, while homeschooling. (She also wrote The Read-Aloud Family, which I highly recommend.) She is gentle and smart and wise about all things books and reading. I have learned A LOT about genres and authors and levels and children from listening to her show. She is super upbeat and kind, and has tons of resources and suggestions on what books to read-aloud to your kids. (Even your older ones! We plan to have family read-alouds forever.) I trust her, and that’s important these days when it comes to what we expose our kiddos to in story. She has six children of her own whom she has educated herself, so she knows the drill y’all.
And there you have it, friends. I trust that you will find something fantastic to chew on from this list here. Feel free to share your favorite podcasts to tune into. I’d love to hear.
Big, happy blessings to you all.
